Privacy Policy
We believe privacy policies should be understandable by normal people, not only lawyers. So here is the plain version first:
- TV Remote Control is designed to help users control a compatible streaming player or smart TV from their phone.
- The app looks for compatible devices on the same Wi-Fi network you are connected to.
- Remote commands travel directly from your phone to your device over the local network. They do not pass through our servers.
- We do not see your screen, your viewing history, or the accounts you are signed into on the device.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We may process limited technical, diagnostic, and support-related data to operate the app, fix issues, and improve stability.
1. Who We Are
This Privacy Policy describes how StudioX Nexus Ltd collects, uses, stores, and protects information in connection with TV Remote Control, our website, customer support, and related services.
If you use TV Remote Control, contact us, or interact with our website, this Policy applies to that use.
2. What the App Does
TV Remote Control is designed to act as a remote control for compatible streaming players and smart TVs located on the same local network as your phone.
The app allows users to find compatible devices on the network, pair with a device they choose, send navigation, playback, volume, and power commands, open channels installed on the device, and type text into on-screen input fields.
TV Remote Control is an independent application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise connected to Roku, Inc. or any television manufacturer. Product names are used only to describe compatibility and belong to their respective owners.
3. Information We May Process
Depending on how you use the app, we may process the following categories of information.
3.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Name and email address, if you contact support
- The content of your message or support request
- Any information you choose to send us for troubleshooting
3.2 Technical and Diagnostic Information
- App version
- Device model
- Operating system version
- Language, region, time zone, and general device settings
- Crash data, diagnostics, performance information, and error logs
We use this information to support app operation, fix issues, and improve stability.
3.3 Device Permissions and Local Network Access
To provide its core features, the app asks for permission to find and communicate with devices on your local network.
This access is used only so you can discover a compatible device, connect to the one you select, and send commands to it.
The app does not require access to your camera, photo library, microphone, contacts, calendar, or precise location. Optional notification permission may be requested separately.
You can deny or revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. If you do so, some features may not work properly or may be unavailable.
4. Local Network Discovery and Device Control
Our goal is to minimize unnecessary handling of personal content.
When you open the app, it broadcasts a discovery request on the Wi-Fi network your phone is joined to and lists the compatible devices that answer. The result of that search — such as a device name, model description, and local network address — is kept on your phone so the app can reconnect to the device you use most often.
Once a device is selected, button presses are sent straight from your phone to that device across your own network. We do not operate a relay server for these commands, and we do not receive a copy of them.
The app cannot read what is displayed on the television, which channels or titles you watch, or the credentials of any streaming account signed in on the device.
5. On-Screen Keyboard and Text Entry
When a text field is open on the television, the app can pass what you type on your phone to that field, so you do not have to select letters one by one with the arrow keys.
Typed characters are transmitted to the selected device over the local network for that purpose only. They are not stored by the app, not recorded in a history, and not transmitted to us.
Because the text is delivered to whichever field the television has open, please enter passwords, payment card details, and similar confidential values on the device itself whenever you have that choice.
6. How We Use Information
We may use information for the following purposes:
- To operate the app and provide requested features
- To discover and connect to the device selected by the user within the app functionality
- To troubleshoot bugs, crashes, and app issues
- To respond to user requests and customer support communications
- To improve app stability, usability, and performance
- To prevent abuse, fraud, and unauthorized use
- To measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, if you allow tracking
- To comply with legal obligations
7. Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we generally rely on one or more of the following:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the app and requested features
- Legitimate interests — to maintain, secure, improve, and support the app
- Consent — where user permission is required, such as access to the local network
- Compliance with legal obligations
8. Analytics, Diagnostics, and Third-Party Services
We may use third-party services for diagnostics, crash reporting, technical infrastructure, customer support, and related operational purposes. Depending on the build, these include analytics and crash reporting tools such as Google Firebase, attribution measurement, and a subscription management provider that validates App Store receipts.
These services may process limited technical data necessary to operate, diagnose, and improve the app, such as a randomly generated installation identifier, the app version, the device model and the operating system version.
We do not share the contents of your local network activity with third-party services for sale or independent use.
We work only with third-party service providers that provide the same or equal protection of user data as stated in this Privacy Policy.
9. Advertising Identifier and Tracking
Where the app asks for permission to track through the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt, that permission governs access to the device advertising identifier. If you decline, the identifier is not used and every feature of the app continues to work as before.
If you allow it, the identifier may be used to measure which marketing campaigns bring people to the app. We do not build advertising profiles from what you control on your television, and we do not sell or share personal data for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined under United States state privacy laws.
The choice can be changed at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security.
10. Data Sharing
We may share limited information only where reasonably necessary, including:
- With service providers that help us operate the app, diagnostics, infrastructure, or support
- With Apple as the platform through which the app is distributed
- With authorities if required by law
- To protect our rights, users, or service security where necessary and legally permitted
We do not sell personal data.
11. Data Retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy.
Technical, diagnostic, and support-related data may be retained to operate the app, fix issues, handle support requests, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations. Analytics records are normally kept in aggregated form for up to 14 months.
Details of the devices found on your network are held on your phone for convenience and are cleared when you remove a paired device in the app or uninstall the app.
12. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
However, no method of transmission or data protection is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Anyone who is connected to the same network as your television may be able to reach it with control software of their own, so we recommend keeping your Wi-Fi protected with a password you do not share widely.
13. International Data Processing
If your data is processed outside your country or region, we take reasonable steps intended to ensure an appropriate level of protection consistent with applicable law.
14. Children’s Privacy
The app is not intended for children under the age of 13, or under a higher age threshold where required by local law.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children in violation of applicable law.
15. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights such as the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to certain processing, or request portability of your personal data.
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent where applicable.
There is no account to look you up by, so please quote the installation reference shown at the bottom of the settings screen when you write. Without it we have no way of telling which technical records belong to you.
To exercise your rights, contact us at techteam@studiox-dev.com.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app, legal requirements, or operational improvements.
The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
